Reset your device
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
Master reset with settings menu
- Verify that pictures are set to save on the memory card. If they are set to save on the device memory, you must move them to a computer or you will lose them.
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
- Tap Settings.
- Under the System section, tap Privacy.
- Tap Master Clear.
- When the popup asks 'Restore all settings to factory defaults and delete all user data?', tap Delete.
- When the popup asks 'This action cannot be reversed...Do you want to continue?', tap Delete.
- Wait as the device restarts and displays the startup screens as it resets.
Master reset with hardware keys
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.
- Back up all necessary data and synchronize files.
- Remove the power cable or the USB cable if the phone is plugged in.
- Turn off the phone. If the phone is unresponsive and does not turn off, remove the battery and then re-insert it.
- Press and hold the Left Navigation key. Make sure you are not pressing the Up or Down keys at the same time.
- Press and hold the Power key. Continue holding both buttons.
- Wait as the phone shows the startup screen, and then about 10 seconds later it displays ** WIPE USERDATA ** at the top of the screen. When the phone displays this message, release the buttons.
- Wait as the phone stays on the screen for 2 minutes clearing data. It then restarts.
Memory and SIM cards
The ‘Network locked’ error message displays when the SIM card is not inserted correctly or not present in the device. It does not mean a SIM subsidy unlock code is needed.
