Supported Hardware
Select the USB Device Descriptor for the SPROG and change the drop-down to FTDI Default. Click on Program Devices (lightning bolt logo) IMPORTANT: Ensure the SPROG, and only the SPROG is ticked (check the device and Loc ID against the main FTPROG window). Click Program and wait for it to finish. Click Cycle Ports. Go into device manager and find the device. Click on 'update driver software' and select the option 'search automatically' (ie go to the web with Windows Update). In my case it downloaded and installed the drivers for both my Lenz devices - decoder programmer (with FTDI chip) and the LAN/USB (which has a different make of chip). There are two drivers available for this device, make sure you obtain the Virtual Comm Port (VCP) driver. The device drivers for Windows are included on the CD that comes with the device. The device drivers for Linux are included with recent versions of the Linux kernel.

General hardware info
If your layout uses some feedback mechanism to sense the actual positions of Turnouts, for example a microswitch connected to the throw bars or a decoder that returns a confirmation message, JMRI can use that to keep track of what's actually happening on the layout. We call this 'Feedback', and how to configure and use it is described on the Turnout Feedback page.
